Resources to help you to navigate the 48th Parliament
What are the revised sitting dates for Parliament? Who is in the Ministry and Shadow Ministry? What changes have happened across Ministerial responsibilities? What issues will be prominent for the new Parliament?
We’ve compiled five key resources to help you to navigate all of these questions.
2025 Proposed parliamentary sitting calendar
On the 22nd of May the revised 2025 parliamentary sitting calendar was released. The calendar outlines when the federal parliament will sit for the remainder of 2025. The first sitting day of the new Parliament is scheduled for Tuesday 22 July.
The new Government Ministry list
The new ministerial appointments were announced by the Prime Minister on 12 May. The full list of Ministers and Assistant Ministers is available here. The Prime Minister also announced a range of Special Envoy positions, which are outlined here.
The Shadow Ministry list
The shadow ministry was announced by the Leader of the Opposition on 29 July. The full list of Shadow Ministers and Shadow Assistant Ministers is available here.
Administrative Arrangements Order
The Administrative Arrangements Order (AAO) outlines the responsibilities of ministers. They also provide an overview of any changes that are occurring to the names and responsibilities of government departments. Following the election, on 13 May the AAO was revised updated. Some of the changes that have occurred include the:
- transfer of responsibility for law enforcement policy and operations from the Attorney‑General’s to the Home Affairs portfolio,
- transfer of the National Disability Insurance Scheme and Foundational Supports from the Social Services portfolio to the Health, Disability and Ageing portfolio,
- transfer of housing, rental and homelessness policy from the Social Services portfolio to the Treasury portfolio.
Issues and insights for the 48th Parliament
The Parliamentary Library has developed articles on the issues that they believe may need to be considered over the course of the 48th Parliament. The issues include the changing global trade environment, digital transformation, the rights and recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and universal access versus the targeting of social services. The articles outline the context for the issue and some of the policy directions raised in the public discussions on the issue.
We’re holding a workshop on the 48th Parliament. You can find out more and register here.
